Quetzal

The Quetzal is a sprightly tropical bird of small dimension but a feisty crest and bold colorations। The Quetzal is a trogon bird, a member of the Trogonidae family. Quetzals have natural habitats in the regions of Brazil, Costa Rica, Venezuela, and other countries such as Ecuador. The sharp clarion trill fascinates bird watchers and exotic bird enthusiasts.
The Quetzal bird is rumored to have been a Mayan pet coexistent in art, crafts, lore and literature as an avian symbol with that culture and many Central and South American legends. Carvings and stonework throughout Central and South America are dotted with emblems and engravings of the Quetzal story. The Guatemalan currency has the outflung wings of the Quetzal on it, and is termed a “Quetzal”.

The stunning high brow and feathery crest may be white, black, or some other dramatic hue. The Quetzal strums a chord with mystics who align the impact appearance with a more portentious quality. The curving dark eye makes an intelligent focus for avian fans of tropical birds. Birding tours during which bird counts are made and record reflect the value both residents and travellers have for these excellent feathered ambassadors of Guatemala.

The Quetzal grows a little beyond a foot high and spans almost two feet when flying। The bird sports a vivid coat of feathers and an elegant long tail, long even for birds of the tropical woodlands. The dramatic tail feathers make a dramatic fashion statement with contrasting breasts and underparts, as well as brow, crest, head and nape colorings. Ecotourists and hikers through these countries prize the sighting of these birds.
The Quetzal makes or an ornithologers’ dream project cataloguing sightings around the world. The Quetzal might have a scarlet accent on the tail, a brilliant blue feather swatch along the wings, and turquoise chevron through mid tail or wingspan. The extended length of the tail of the Quetzal makes a stunning silhouette in flight. The sharply articulated curve of the Quetzal inclines from frontward neck to outlying beak, the yellow brightness of the foreshortened bill in contrast to the elegant long feathers, the green collar and head feather setting off the deep red breast, alert expression and high fringed crest.

Quetzals live in bored out trees and bank nests made of feathers and twigs for egg laying. Canopy and forest scrub do not hold back trophy hunting and smugglers, however, ands the Quetzal’s impressive resplendence is synonymous with its rarity. Quetzals are seriously endangered and would make beautiful pets if international laws did not term them protected and under threat of extinction. The Quetzal is the national bird of Guatemala. The word Quetzal might as mean “beautiful” in Mayan, because these birds have a precious quality to them.

Some of the most well known types of Quetzal include the Resplendent Quetzal, Crested Quetzal, Golden-headed Quetzal, White-tipped Quetzal, Pavonine Quetzal, and Eared Quetzal।
